Why we built CitizenX.
I discovered flag theory at 14. The idea was simple: build your life across countries, choosing what each offered best. But it wasn’t until 2020, amid endless lockdowns and exit denials, that I understood how much that freedom depended on citizenship.
Borders closed. Flights disappeared. Being able to work from anywhere meant little if you had nowhere else you were allowed to go.
My co-founder, Luis Cuende, experienced this firsthand. He had founded Aragon to help people build organizations that could govern themselves online. Yet during COVID, he and his partner got stuck because of her passport. They had to marry somewhere in the Middle East because it was the only country they could both travel together back home.
Luis had spent years helping people create sovereign organizations. Now he couldn't even choose where to get married.
When we met, our experiences brought us to the same conclusion: citizenship was the missing piece.
I think of mobility as liquidity. Having options means you can act when circumstances change. Another citizenship gives you somewhere else to go, a different future to choose, and less dependence on one government's decisions.
We built CitizenX to help you create those options before you need them. We bring technology and expert guidance together to help you choose and acquire citizenships based on what matters to you.
