Renew your Antigua and Barbuda passport in 2026. Explore renewal fees, required documents, remote assistance, replacements, and CitizenX support.
Your passport should make travel easier. Keeping it current is how you keep that freedom available when you need it.
For Antigua and Barbuda citizens, renewal starts with the usual practical work: choosing the right application route, gathering documents, arranging photographs, and allowing enough time for processing. If you obtained citizenship through investment, your first renewal also deserves a review of the program requirements attached to your citizenship.
The visit requirement is the one to check early. The Citizenship by Investment Unit, or CIU, links renewal of the initial five-year passport to spending a total of five days in Antigua and Barbuda within the relevant five-year period after gaining citizenship. The CIU’s passport guidance sets out that condition.
To renew your Antigua and Barbuda passport, confirm your eligibility and submission route, complete the appropriate passport form, gather the required identity and citizenship records, arrange compliant photos and certification, pay the applicable fees, and submit your application. For CBI citizens, confirm the status of any visit requirement before treating the file as ready.
CitizenX can assist with your renewal even if you originally obtained your Antigua and Barbuda citizenship or passport through another provider. Existing clients can contact their concierge; new clients can speak with our team about the assistance available for their situation.
This guide covers the process, published consular fees, family applications, and the details that can turn a routine renewal into a longer project.
Last reviewed: September 18, 2026. Fees and procedures depend on the receiving office and application category. The consular examples below are not universal CBI renewal quotes. Confirm current instructions before paying or sending originals.
| Question | What to know |
|---|
| Where do I start? | Identify whether this is a routine renewal, first CBI renewal, replacement, or application involving changed details. |
| Can I apply from abroad? | Overseas missions provide passport services. CBI applicants should confirm the appropriate coordination with their licensed agent. |
| Which form do I need? | Published forms distinguish applicants aged 16 and older from those under 16. |
| Is there one worldwide fee? | No. The application route, age category, booklet type, delivery, and professional assistance can affect the total. |
| How long should I allow? | London and New York publish approximately eight weeks for their passport services; confirm a current estimate for your case. |
| Can CitizenX help if I applied elsewhere? | Yes. You do not need to have used CitizenX for the original citizenship application. |
The London High Commission’s passport page and New York consulate’s services page provide examples of overseas submission arrangements and processing guidance.
Distinguish your first passport under the citizenship-by-investment program from a later renewal.
The CIU describes an initial five-year passport. CitizenX’s program guidance states that passports following the first renewal are valid for ten years, while the published Form L instructions also describe ten-year standard passports. Confirm the validity applicable to your age and application category, particularly for children. See CitizenX’s Antigua and Barbuda guide and the official Form L notes.
For planning, use the expiry date printed in the passport you actually hold. A general description of a ten-year passport does not extend an existing five-year document.
Review everyone’s passport separately if you are managing a family application. Children may reach a different form or consent category before the next renewal, and the dates in their passports may differ from yours.
Keep the citizenship certificate safe as well. It establishes something different from the validity of the travel document. Passport renewal is part of maintaining usable documentation; any separate question about citizenship status or program compliance needs its own review.
If this is your first CBI passport renewal, review your travel history before assembling the rest of the file.
The CIU’s published rule refers to a total of five days in Antigua and Barbuda after obtaining citizenship, within the five-year period. It should not be casually interpreted as five days every year or as a condition that an online submission can satisfy. See the official passport page.
Prepare a record of the visits you have made. Useful material to locate includes entry and exit stamps, boarding passes, booking confirmations, and any correspondence about your compliance. These are suggested records to gather, not a claim that every item is mandatory or sufficient evidence.
Ask the team handling your renewal what the CIU needs to verify your stay. If you entered using another passport, explain that so the relevant travel records can be identified.
For families, request an applicant-by-applicant review. Do not assume that one person’s visit satisfies everyone’s obligation, or that an exemption discussed for a child automatically continues after they become an adult. Ask how age, citizenship grant date, and any written exemption or transitional arrangement affect each person.
If you have not completed the required stay, raise that immediately. Provide your citizenship date, passport expiry date, and travel history. Ask for guidance on the steps available in your case before making a booking or assuming a late visit resolves the issue.
A practical point: avoid designing a trip around the narrowest possible interpretation of a day. Confirm how the authority counts arrival and departure, and leave room for a canceled flight or a changed schedule.
Before submitting in 2026, have your advisor check for any later official instructions affecting your citizenship cohort. A proposal, a news headline, and an effective requirement are different things. Your file needs the rule that actually applies to you.
Start with a short summary of your situation: where you live, how you acquired citizenship, when your passport expires, and why you need a new one.
If you are a CBI citizen, tell the person handling the inquiry whether this is your first renewal and whether you have already completed your visit. Mention any lost documents or changes to your personal details at the same time.
The CIU-hosted passport form directs CIP applicants to their licensed agent. That is a useful starting point for coordinating the program-related elements of the application. See Form L.
For applicants using an overseas mission, establish that it accepts applications from your location and category. An office being geographically close does not tell you whether it can receive your application by post, requires an appointment, or needs another office involved.
Ask for the current checklist, an itemized quote, and an estimated return time. Save the reply with your application records.
CitizenX can discuss assistance even if another provider handled your original citizenship application. Having your existing documents and reference numbers available will make that first conversation more productive, but you do not need a perfectly organized file before contacting us.
Use the current form supplied by the receiving office or the team coordinating your application.
Published forms identify Form L for applicants aged 16 and older and Form M for applicants under 16. The adult-form category does not remove every parental-consent requirement: Form L contains specific signing instructions for applicants who are 16 or 17. See the CIU-hosted Form L and the forms linked on the London passport page above.
Read the full form before completing it. Identify the sections for citizenship status, the previous passport, certification, consent, and signatures.
Work from original records rather than memory. A certificate number copied incorrectly or a date entered in the wrong format can create a follow-up question that would have taken seconds to prevent.
Use the name supported by your current legal records. If you want a different name in the new passport, get advice before filling it in; CBI applicants face a separate published restriction discussed later in this guide.
If a field does not fit your circumstances, ask how to answer it. Do not leave required sections unexplained or sign a declaration that does not accurately describe your position.
Keep an unsigned copy until you understand any witnessing or certification requirements. It is easier to get the signing sequence right once than to arrange a second appointment.
Prepare a document list tailored to your citizenship route. A citizen by descent may need evidence of a parent’s nationality, while a registered citizen needs the records supporting that registration.
The published Form L notes identify birth and registration or naturalization certificates for relevant applicants, marriage records where applicable, passport identity pages, and authentication requirements for foreign documents. They also require surrender of a previous Antigua and Barbuda passport for cancellation. Confirm the exact originals and copies needed for your route. See the official instructions.
For planning, organize your file into these groups:
| Group | What to locate |
|---|---|
| Existing travel documents | Current Antigua and Barbuda passport and any other passport requested for identification |
| Citizenship records | Registration, naturalization, or other evidence relevant to your citizenship route |
| Civil records | Birth certificate and any applicable marriage, divorce, adoption, or legal-name documents |
| CBI records | Grant details, original application references, and material relevant to compliance review |
| Application materials | Current form, photographs, certification, consent documents, and payment evidence |
This is an organizing framework, not a universal list of mandatory enclosures.
Find the originals early. If your citizenship certificate is with an advisor in another country, retrieving it may take longer than getting new photos.
Before sending anything, make clear scans for your own records. Keep them securely with the final application and a list of the originals submitted. Ask how and when each original will be returned.
Photo instructions deserve a direct check because published overseas checklists are not identical.
London specifies two identical color photographs taken within six months, measuring 45 mm × 35 mm. New York’s downloadable checklist asks for three 2 × 2 inch color photographs. Follow the current instructions confirmed by the office receiving your application. See London’s photo guidance and New York’s checklist.
Bring that guidance to the photographer. “Passport-sized” is not a universal measurement, and the standard used in the country where you live may not match your receiving office’s requirements.
Check the prints for sharpness and an unobstructed view of your face. Avoid filters or edits that change your appearance. Confirm the rules for head coverings, glasses, clothing, background, and photo endorsement before the appointment.
For certification, the general Form L notes identify qualified professionals and a personal-acquaintance requirement of at least two years, with provisions for overseas applications. New York publishes its own notary instructions, including an identity-verification alternative where the notary has not known the applicant for that period. Ask which procedure applies rather than combining parts of different checklists. See the Form L certification notes and New York checklist above.
Show the declaration to the proposed certifier in advance. They need to know what they are being asked to confirm and whether they can truthfully do so.
There is no useful single price unless you also know the receiving office, application category, delivery arrangements, and services included.
The High Commission’s schedule, effective April 1, 2025, lists:
| Item | Published charge |
|---|---|
| New or renewed passport, age 16 and over | £50 |
| New or renewed passport, under 16 | £25 |
| Lost, damaged, or stolen passport, age 16 and over | £100 |
| Lost, damaged, or stolen passport, under 16 | £50 |
| Courier to Antigua for collection there | £60 |
| Courier to Antigua and return to UK or Europe | £130 |
For an eligible routine application in the 16-and-over category with the listed return courier service, the published components total £180. That is a consular example, not a complete CBI renewal quote or CitizenX price. The page also provides bank-transfer instructions and requires payment evidence. See London’s official fee schedule.
The New York consulate lists these renewal charges:
| Category | Published renewal charge |
|---|---|
| Adult, 32-page booklet | US$90 |
| Adult, 64-page booklet | US$150 |
| Applicant under 16 | US$40 |
These are the consulate’s published categories, before applicable delivery or other charges. Confirm current booklet availability and the total payable for your case. See New York’s passport services.
Ask for a current quote specifically for a CBI renewal. The CIU’s public schedule lists US$300 per person for passport issuance within the citizenship application fee structure; it does not clearly establish that figure as a complete renewal charge. It should not be presented as one. See the CIU fee schedule.
Separate government and consular charges from professional assistance, certification, translations, and courier costs. If a visit is still required, budget for that independently.
A family quote should identify the charge for each person and explain whether delivery can be combined. Do not assume that renewing four passports means four identical fees or one shared shipping charge.
Compare every item against the checklist confirmed for your route. Check names, dates, signatures, photo certification, payment evidence, and any compliance documents requested for a CBI case.
Make sure the person handling your application has a reliable email address and phone number. If you are traveling during processing, explain how to reach you and where you expect to receive the passport.
Confirm exactly when your current booklet must be surrendered. Once it is away, your travel options may change. If you have another nationality, review whether that other passport and your existing immigration permissions work for any planned journey; do not assume they can be substituted without checking.
For postal applications, use the instructed delivery method and retain tracking information. Save the final application copy separately from the courier receipt. One records the contents; the other records delivery.
Ask for acknowledgment when the file is received and clarification of when it is considered complete. An advisor receiving scans and the authority accepting a complete application can be different milestones.
If the team requests a correction, provide the exact replacement item and identify what changed. Keeping one clear final version is easier than asking someone to assemble an application from several overlapping emails.
London and New York both publish approximately eight weeks for their passport services. Treat that as office-specific guidance, subject to confirmation, rather than a guaranteed timeline for every renewal.
Plan for the whole task: obtaining records, arranging certification, submitting the application, resolving questions, producing the passport, and delivering it. Ask which parts are included in the estimate you receive.
Older forms can contain shorter processing references. A form remaining available online does not mean every historic timing statement is a current service commitment. Use a fresh estimate from the office handling your case.
If you need urgent travel, disclose the deadline before submission. Ask whether urgent processing is available for your category and what evidence is needed. Avoid assuming that an emergency box on a form guarantees next-day service through an overseas mission.
Follow up with your name, reference number, submission date, and a specific question. If you want to know whether the passport has been issued or dispatched, ask that directly rather than relying on a broad statement that the application is “in progress.”
Leave room between the expected return date and an important trip. That margin is particularly useful for a first CBI renewal, a replacement, or an application requiring additional records.
Open the return package as soon as it arrives. Verify your name, date of birth, photograph, and other personal details. Check the issue and expiry dates and confirm that expected supporting originals have been returned.
Report any discrepancy promptly. Keep your upcoming travel details available if a correction could affect a booking.
Next, review where the old passport is recorded. That may include airline reservations, residence accounts, visas, banks, employers, or professional registrations. Ask each organization what needs updating and use its secure process.
For UK travel, an ETA is linked to the passport used in the application and only permits travel with that document. If you need an ETA for your journey, arrange it for the passport you will use. See the UK’s ETA rules.
For visas remaining in an old booklet, check the issuing country’s rules. Do not assume that the visa transfers automatically or becomes unusable simply because a new passport has been issued. Ask about retaining the old booklet before the renewal if it contains a visa you need.
Save a secure copy of the new identity page, update your family document record, and set a reminder for the next review.
Overseas passport services exist, and CitizenX can discuss assistance with coordinating your renewal from where you live. The practical arrangements depend on your application category and receiving office.
An online consultation or document upload does not necessarily replace physical documents, certification, surrender of the old passport, or any required appointment. Ask which steps are digital and which are not.
For CBI citizens, remote submission also does not answer the separate question of whether the required stay has been completed. Get both parts reviewed: how the application will be submitted and whether the conditions for renewal are satisfied.
Before engaging assistance, establish who will hold your originals, who will submit the file, and how the new passport will be delivered. Those details tell you more about the service than the word “remote” on its own.
Create an individual checklist for each family member, even if all passports were originally issued together.
Record the applicant’s current age, passport expiry date, citizenship grant date, and relevant consent or guardianship circumstances. A teenager may now need a different form from the one used five years ago.
Follow the specific parental-signature instructions in the current application. Where parents are separated, a guardian acts for the child, or a parent is unavailable, ask which records and consents the authority needs before arranging signatures.
For a family with CBI citizenship, have the visit history and any age-related treatment checked individually. Keep written advice or confirmation with each person’s file rather than relying on a general conversation about the whole family.
Try to review the family’s deadlines together without assuming everyone must renew on the same day. A child’s school trip or another family member’s residence appointment may make a different submission window more practical.
Adding a new dependent to a citizenship file is a separate task from renewing an existing citizen’s passport. Identify which service each person actually needs before comparing costs.
Tell the appropriate authority promptly if your passport is lost or stolen. New York’s checklist requests a police report for replacement applications and describes an alternative involving a sworn affidavit and police incident slip where a report is unavailable. It also requests a notarized explanation for a damaged or altered passport. Confirm the procedure applicable to your route. See the consulate’s replacement instructions.
Provide a clear account of what happened, including dates, location, and the old document number if known. If you have a saved copy, make it available through the requested secure channel.
For damage, describe the problem rather than trying to repair the booklet yourself. Ask whether the application should be treated as a replacement and whether the damaged passport must accompany it.
A replacement can involve checks beyond an ordinary expiry renewal. Ask for a fresh timeline and quote instead of assuming the routine estimate applies.
If you are stranded, contact a diplomatic mission about emergency assistance. Explain the intended itinerary; an emergency document, where available, should not be assumed suitable for every destination or transit route.
Do not assume that a legal name change elsewhere can automatically be reflected in an Antigua and Barbuda CBI passport.
The CIU’s published FAQ records a Cabinet decision dated December 11, 2014 restricting successful CBI applicants from changing their names by deed poll or other means for issuance of an Antigua and Barbuda passport. Obtain current guidance on how that published policy applies to your circumstances before submitting a different name. See the CIU’s name-change FAQ.
A requested legal name change and correction of an error made when a passport was issued are different questions. Explain exactly what happened and provide the underlying records so the appropriate process can be identified.
If marriage, divorce, adoption, or another event has affected your records, raise it before booking travel under the proposed new name. The names on your citizenship documents, passport, and bookings need a consistent, lawful basis.
Starting with a price instead of your application category. A published consular fee does not establish the complete cost of a CBI renewal handled through another route.
Leaving the visit review until the passport is nearly expired. Check your records while you still have time to resolve questions and, if required, plan travel.
Mixing instructions from different offices. Photo dimensions and certification arrangements can differ. Choose your route first, then use the checklist confirmed for it.
Assuming your original advisor has every document. Ask for an inventory. Locate certificates and reference numbers before they become urgent.
Ordering every document from your original citizenship checklist. Ask what this renewal requires. A first citizenship application and renewal serve different purposes, although additional evidence may be requested in your case.
Treating an estimate as a delivery promise. Keep important bookings flexible until the passport has arrived and been checked wherever possible.
Yes. CitizenX can assist with renewal even if you originally obtained citizenship or your passport through another provider. Share your location, expiry date, citizenship details, and any missing documents so we can discuss the appropriate next steps.
It depends on the route. This guide includes published London and New York consular charges, but they are not universal CBI prices. Ask for an itemized quote covering the applicant’s category, government charges, professional assistance, and delivery.
The CIU’s published passport condition describes a total stay within the initial five-year period, not an annual visit obligation. Confirm how the applicable rules, any later changes, and any individual exemption affect your case.
The official application form includes reissue of an expired passport as a category. If yours has already expired, explain that when requesting instructions. Any unresolved CBI compliance issue still needs to be addressed; expiry alone does not answer that question.
Use photos that meet the receiving office’s current recency and format requirements. Do not reuse an old citizenship-application photograph simply because it is already certified. Check the required number and dimensions before having new photos taken.
Confirm when your current passport must be surrendered and plan around that period. If you intend to use another passport, check the visas, residence permissions, and nationality-specific rules relevant to your journey before booking.
Professional assistance can help organize the file and address questions, but the authority controls issuance. Ask what work is included, which timeline is being quoted, and whether any urgent service has actually been confirmed for your application.
A second citizenship is most useful when its documents are ready for the life you want to lead. Renewal is the moment to check the details: your records, any program obligations, your family’s deadlines, and the travel plans ahead.
