National ID Card in Botswana

The Botswana Omang is the main identity document for citizens at home. It is often needed to open accounts, sign contracts, vote, or renew other documents. We prepare the application, book the appointment, and follow the card until it is ready.

How it works in Botswana

These points come from the Government of Botswana service page:

• The Omang is issued to citizens aged 16 and above by the Department of Civil and National Registration.
• First-time applicants use the Application for Registration (1st Schedule). Loss, renewal, theft, damage, or a change of surname use the Application for Replacement. Fingerprints are taken when you apply.
• Supporting documents are the birth certificate, the citizenship certificate where it applies, and proof of a surname change.
• Processing takes 14 working days, and you need the submission receipt to collect the card.
• Applying more than 30 days after your 16th birthday, or after getting citizenship, counts as late registration and is referred to the police for a caution and fine.

Before you apply

• Plan for an in-person step. Most authorities take fingerprints, a photo, or a signature themselves.
• Check your names. The spelling should match your passport, birth record, and any naturalisation certificate.
• Have your citizenship evidence ready. New citizens may need the certificate or registration record before the card can be issued.
