Driver License in Dominica

A Dominica driver's licence lets you drive legally once you live there or hold its citizenship. Depending on your situation, you may get a new licence, exchange a foreign one, or use a temporary permit while you settle in.

How it works in Dominica

These points come from Dominica's Inland Revenue Division driver's licence page:

• A learner's licence for a car needs you to be at least 18 (17 for a motorcycle). You apply with your passport or birth certificate and the application form.
• The learner's licence costs EC$60 and is valid for three months. Before it runs out you book a road test, which costs EC$150, and bring an insurance certificate covering you and the examiner.
• After the test you take the Certificate of Competence to the Inland Revenue Division and pay the licence fee. A Class B licence for private vehicles is EC$80 a year, with a 10% discount if you pay three years.
• Visitors with a valid foreign licence can get a temporary licence for one to three months (EC$30 for one month, EC$60 for three).

• Check your current licence. Whether it can be exchanged depends on the country that issued it and whether it is still valid.
• Plan for an in-person step. Most authorities take a photo, signature, or eye test at the counter.
• Prepare translations. Licences in another language often need a certified translation.
