Passport Renewal in Serbia

A Serbia passport renewal is for someone who already holds that passport and needs a new one. An expired passport can usually still be renewed. If the passport was lost, stolen, or damaged, the request is a replacement, which often has its own steps.

How renewal works in Serbia

These points come from the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs travel documents page:

• Biometric passports are issued by the authority in charge of internal affairs, and they are made in Serbia.
• Abroad, applications go to designated Serbian diplomatic or consular missions and must be made in person.
• You bring an identity document such as your biometric passport or identity card. Proof of citizenship is needed only for a first passport, or when your personal data have changed.
• Applications are processed within a 60-day legal deadline.
• After notice, you collect the passport in person at the mission where you applied, or an authorised person collects it.
• Missions do not accept applications with a changed family name from a marriage abroad until the change is registered in Serbia's vital records.

Renewal or replacement?

• Renewal. Your passport is valid, about to expire, or expired, and you still have it.
• Replacement. The passport was lost, stolen, or damaged. Expect a police report or a sworn declaration, and sometimes a longer wait.
• Change of details. If your name or other details changed, the authority usually wants the supporting civil documents first.
