Birth Registration including National ID in Vanuatu
Register a birth and request the national ID that follows from that registration.
Processing time: Several weeks
Vanuatu
Overview
This service covers registering a Vanuatu birth and getting the national ID that follows. We work out which route and forms apply, prepare the papers with you, file them with the right office, and follow the request until the document is issued.
How it works in Vanuatu
These points come from CRIM's Registration of Births page, CRIM's National ID Cards and E-ID page:
- Births are registered with CRIM. The family brings proof of birth (from a health facility, midwife, or doctor, or two witnesses if there is none), completes the Registration of New Birth Form, and receives the certificate. The first copy of a new registration is free.
- The first Registration Centre is the hospital where the child was born. Families discharged on a weekend or holiday have 21 days to register at the nearest centre for on-time registration.
- CRIM has issued National ID Cards since 2017. Each card carries a unique ID number and a QR code, and a reprint costs 500 vatu.
- CRIM charges 500 vatu for a reprinted certified birth certificate copy for people aged 13 to 59, and it is free for children 12 and under and people aged 60 and over.
Rules and fees change, so we check the official source again before your application goes in.
Before you start
- Match your names. The spelling should be the same on your passport, birth record, and any citizenship certificate.
- Collect the originals. Most offices want originals or certified copies, and some want translations.
- Plan for in-person steps. Some offices take photos, fingerprints, or signatures themselves.
- Tell us the destination. If the document will be used abroad, it may also need an apostille.
Why requests get delayed
- Names or dates that differ between documents
- A birth, marriage, or citizenship record that is not yet in the register
- Missing translations or certified copies
- Fees paid to the wrong account
- Photos that do not meet the office's rules
We check each of these before anything is filed.

Fees
Price on request
You receive a quote before any filing starts. It separates the CitizenX fee from government charges, translations, and courier costs. Those extras are added only when they apply, and only after you approve them.
Government fees change, so we confirm them with the issuing authority for your case before you sign.
Government and third-party charges are confirmed in the quote when they apply.
Questions
Yes. CRIM issues the first copy of a new registration free of charge.
From the official sources linked on this page. We check them again before filing because rules and fees change.
Not always. We tell you before anything is filed if a step must be done in person.
You approve the quote before we file. Government fees, translations, and courier charges are listed on their own when they apply.
