Overview

People often ask for a Nauru national ID card, but the country has not set one up yet. This page explains what exists today and what we can do instead, such as getting the passport and civil records that prove your identity.

How it works in Nauru

These points come from the Statelessness Encyclopedia Asia Pacific profile of Nauru:

  • Nauru has not yet set up a national identification system, although legislation for individual national ID codes was passed in 2017.
  • In practice, this means a Nauruan citizen proves identity with other documents, usually the passport and civil registry records.

Rules and fees change, so we check the official source again before your application goes in.

Before you apply

  • Plan for an in-person step. Most authorities take fingerprints, a photo, or a signature themselves.
  • Check your names. The spelling should match your passport, birth record, and any naturalisation certificate.
  • Have your citizenship evidence ready. New citizens may need the certificate or registration record before the card can be issued.

Why applications get delayed

  • Names or dates that differ between documents
  • A birth or citizenship record that is not yet in the civil registry
  • Missing proof of a name change or marriage
  • Photos that do not meet the authority's rules
  • Fees paid to the wrong account or for the wrong year

We check each of these before the application goes in.

What to send

Passport

A valid passport, with a copy of the photo page.

Birth certificate

Your birth certificate, when the authority asks for it.

Process

  1. Brief. Tell us whether this is a first card, renewal, or replacement, and where you live.
  2. Check and quote. We confirm the route, list the documents, and send you the quote.
  3. Documents. You send scans; we check them and arrange translations or certificates if needed.
  4. Appointment. We book the visit where fingerprints, photo, or signature are taken.
  5. Filing. The application is lodged and the fee is paid to the right account.
  6. Collection. We track it until the card is ready and tell you how to collect it.

Fees

Price on request

You receive a quote before any filing starts. It separates the CitizenX fee from government charges, translations, and courier costs. Those extras are added only when they apply, and only after you approve them.

Government fees change, so we confirm them with the issuing authority for your case before you sign.

Government and third-party charges are confirmed in the quote when they apply.

Questions

Usually yes, because the authority takes biometrics itself. We tell you before anything is filed if a visit is needed.

Not yet. The 2017 legislation set up ID codes, but no national ID system is running. We tell you which documents will prove your identity in its place and check again before any application.

From the official sources linked on this page. We check them again before filing because rules and fees change.

You approve the quote before we file. Government fees, translations, and courier charges are listed on their own when they apply.
