Driver License in Serbia

A Serbia driver's licence lets you drive legally once you live there or hold its citizenship. Depending on your situation, you may get a new licence, exchange a foreign one, or use a temporary permit while you settle in.

How it works in Serbia

These points come from the Serbian Ministry of Interior's licence renewal page:

• The Ministry of Interior issues driving licences for ten years. Drivers over 65 get up to five years.
• You can apply for a new licence at the earliest 30 days before the old one expires, or up to a year early if you are going abroad or have another good reason.
• You bring the old licence, your valid ID card, and a payment slip generated on the eUprava portal.
• A medical certificate no older than six months is needed if you are over 65 or your earlier licence was shortened for health reasons.

Rules and fees change, so we check the official source again before your application goes in.

Before you apply

• Check your current licence. Whether it can be exchanged depends on the country that issued it and whether it is still valid.
• Plan for an in-person step. Most authorities take a photo, signature, or eye test at the counter.
• Prepare translations. Licences in another language often need a certified translation.
