Driver License in Türkiye

A Türkiye driver's licence lets you drive legally once you live there or hold its citizenship. Depending on your situation, you may get a new licence, exchange a foreign one, or use a temporary permit while you settle in.

How it works in Türkiye

These points come from the Turkish Population and Citizenship Directorate (NVİ) driving licence FAQ:

• Driving licences are issued by population directorates (NVİ) by appointment, which you book on randevu.nvi.gov.tr, e-Devlet, NVİ Mobil, or the 199 call centre.
• Since 2016, Turkish citizens can drive on a foreign licence for two years and foreigners for six months. After that you need a Turkish licence.
• To exchange a foreign licence you bring the original and a colour copy, a driver's health report, and one biometric photo taken in the last six months.
• B-class licences are valid for ten years.

• Check your current licence. Whether it can be exchanged depends on the country that issued it and whether it is still valid.
• Plan for an in-person step. Most authorities take a photo, signature, or eye test at the counter.
• Prepare translations. Licences in another language often need a certified translation.
